Germany Celebrates: 60 Years of the Federal Republic of Germany, 20 Years since the Fall of the Wall

Germany is celebrating two major anniversaries in 2009: 60 years ago, the promulgation of the Basic Law represented the birth of the Federal Republic of Germany; 20 years ago, in November, the Berlin Wall came down. These historical turning points mark a period spanning from the economic miracle in post-war Germany to the end of the Cold War in 1989.

German National Unity Day at Phoenicia InterContinental

To mark the occasion of German National Unity Day, the German Embassy hosted a reception at the Hotel Phoenicia InterContinental (on Wednesday, 3rd October), drawing several hundred guests to the Grand Ballroom. Among those in attendance were Hansjorg Haber, Wadih Khazen, Anwar al-Khalil, Hisham Dimechkie, Nabil Kettaneh, Abbas Zaki and Roula Badran, among others (source: Daily Star).
