Federal Minister Dr. Gerd Müller visits Lebanon
More than 330 million USD support this year -
During his visit on October 5th and 6th, the Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Dr. Gerd Müller met with Prime Minister Tammam Salam and Minister for Social Affairs, Rashid Derbas in Grand Serail for political talks. On a field trip to the Bekaa, the Minister saw various projects of UNHCR, UNDP, the World Food Program (WFP), the the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC). He visited an intermediate mixed public school in Taalabaya and officially opened a Cultural Center in El Marj.
Minister Müller stressed the important role of Lebanon in dealing with the repercussions of the conflict in Syria. Lebanon continues to generously shelter more than 1.5 million Syrian and Palestinian refugees. The German Government and the people of Germany acknowledge this important contribution to humanity.
Minister Müller emphasized the German government’s intention to support Lebanon in this difficult situation. Germany is one of the most significant partners of Lebanon in the field of education, support of host communities, water supply, food and wider humanitarian assistance; spending more than 330 million USD in 2016 in Lebanon alone. German funds are made available for vulnerable populations regardless of their nationality, assisting Lebanese, Syrians and Palestinians.
